CFS Scholarship Funds

What are the CFS Scholarship Funds?

CFS Scholarships are a collective of funds generously donated by alumni, foundations, and NU partners to support CFS students in need of financial assistance to cover the extra costs of participating in an internship during their CFS quarter. All accepted CFS students with financial need, including international students, are eligible to apply. Averaging around $500 per student, these awards help students recoup some of the costs of transportation, food, and even lost income from reduced hours at work-study or off campus jobs.

Candidates for CFS Scholarship awards must:

  1. Be enrolled NU undergraduates accepted into the CFS program and in good academic standing
  2. Have financial need

CFS Scholarship recipients are required to:

  1. Write to thank donors explaining how and why this financial support will make a difference in their internship experience.
  2. Write one blog post about their CFS experience at an assigned time during the quarter
  3. Complete and return all required paperwork if you are not in the Northwestern University Payroll system. You will also be required to complete E-Verify, which requires you to have original documents available for processing. (E-Verify is required by all Northwestern University payees, including scholarship recipients.)

When and how do students apply?

All CFS accepted students will be e-mailed the application and information at the open of the application period for each quarter.

On occasion, applications may be considered outside of the application periods if pre-approved. Students should contact their CFS advisor or cfs@northwestern.edu for more information.

Please note that Analysis of Field Experience students are not eligible for CFS Scholarship Funding.

What are the criteria used for evaluating applications?

  1. Financial need as explained by student and rated by Financial Aid Office (except for international students)
  2. Completeness and accuracy of the budget and essays outlining need
  3. Quality of application and essays

When are applicants notified about CFS Scholarship awards?

All applications will be reviewed after the deadline and award notification will be sent as soon as possible after that date.  Awards for students not yet enrolled will be conditional and dependent upon the student securing an internship and enrolling in his/her CFS class(es).
