Intern in Chicago this fall! Applications are still being accepted for Field Studies in Humanities, Field Studies in Civic Engagement, and Field Studies in Public Health! Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis until classes are full.

You will need to schedule a one-on-one information session before applying. To do so, please call 847-467-0605.

The Chicago Field Studies program merges academic study and career exploration by combining a seminar class with an internship experience. Students accepted into the program receive individual counseling in order to help them identify and apply for internships that match their career interests. The CFS course connects seminar readings to discussions on the student's internship, work culture and current issues. The program is open to undergraduate students from all schools and majors.

Open Concentrations:

Field Studies in Humanities
Class topics: Why study the liberal arts? What is the role of the humanities beyond academia? Explore the complex importance of the humanities in civic society. Learn more>>

Potential internships include:
  Chicago History Museum, Chicago Humanities Festival, Chicago Children's Museum, Mitchell Museum, National Public Radio, National Museum of Mexican Art, John G Shedd Aquarium, Youth Muse (Museum Consulting), Korshak Fashion, and The Field Museum.

Field Studies in Civic Engagement
Class Topics: Reflect on your experiences as a student, an intern, a citizen, and a member of a generation, and then analyze how each of those roles affects the others.  How has your generation’s civic participation been portrayed in contemporary media and scholarship?  Do these narratives match your experience as a Northwestern student?  As an intern?  If the form of that participation is still evolving today, what’s motivating the change?  Learn more>>

Potential internships include: Companies That Care, PROACT Search & SUPES Academy, eSpark Education, LIFT Chicago, Heartland Alliance, Center on Wrongful Convictions, IL Attorney General's Office, CNT Energy and Center for Neighborhood Technology (Policy team), Jail Education Systems, Justice for our Neighbors, Law Office of Blake Horowitz, Teach for America (Administration & Diversity), The Warming House – youth drop-in, Upwardly Global, Women's Global Education Project, and The Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

Field Studies in Public Health
